[center]My idea for a more plausible divergence that allows Germany to win in the east:
July 1940-Karl von Dönitz convinces Hitler not to invade Britain, sparing the Luftwaffe a major defeat at the hands of the RAF
June 22nd 1941-Operation Barbarossa commences
September 1941-Battle of Moscow. Heinz Guderian's Pabzergruppe 2 is available for the battle, and eventually the Germans in a decisive victory capture Moscow before General Winter sets in. (and I am very aware of the massive Soviet army in Moscow-but it's not as if the book was anymore realistic)
in the intervening days, weeks, and months, the Soviet government relocates itself to the Ural mountains as the German armies seize Leningrad and Novgorod, crippling the already desperate Red Army, which has already launched a series of failed counterattacks before being forced to retreat eastwards.
The German army races towards Stalingrad and takes control of the city, cutting off the flow of oil to the Soviet armies.
1943-The German army invades Allied positions across the Middle East. In time, Panzer tanks are rolling into Iraq, Kuwait, and Palestine. Rommel, with the support of the armies in the Middle East, defeats the British defending the Suez Canal. The loss of Suez Canal weakens Britain's ability to supply India.
The Japanese meanwhile invade Siberia, which has been left almost completely to the dogs, as Stalin has withdrawn as many units back as possible to the "Ural Defensive line."
Despite the prospect of utter doom for the Soviet Union, Stalin refuses to surrender, preferring instead to fight to the very end.
1944(complain all you want about this)-The Western Allies invade Normandy in an effort to relieve pressure off of the Soviet Union(and ya I'm aware that technically without the Reds marching East into Europe opening up the West would be a hellish nightmare for the Allies, not to mention Italy pretty much conquered the entire Mediterranean sea, so rule out a third front to the south)
the tank forces under Rommel's command are are allowed to be dispersed in small units and kept in heavily fortified positions as close to the front as possible. In doing so they would won't have to move far and en masse when the invasion started.(from wikipedia). Operation Fortitude fails(please, you are welcome to fill my brain with useless facts/reasons as to why it would never fail), resulting in a larger concentration of German units in Normandy. When D-Day happens, Rommel's plan proves to be a success and the Allies are sent packing across the English Channel
Meanwhile the Japanese have kicked Communist butt and thousands of Russian lives have already been lost along the Ural front. Stalin changes his decision to fight to the death and agrees to give up western Russia. A line is drawn up along the Ural mountains dividing German occupied west Russia with Soviet east Russia. The central portion of Russia becomes to be known as the buffer state of Russia(like in the original Fatherland mod)
The Allies after the devastating defeat at Normandy agree to a peace treaty favorable almost exclusively to the Germans. Britain loses its northeast African holdings to the Italian Empire, Franco's Spain(which joined in the latter half of the war) receives Gibraltar and French Morocco(keeping with the Fatherland mod/book). Free French still exists, but can never go back to the City of Light. All in all an Axis victory(Asia and the Pacific is a different matter entirely)
