    Hello my fellow supporters of our little mod.

    Now, that 1.4 Beta is out and things will hopefully develop in a good direction (I have not yet tested it myself, and probably will not take part in the early Beta stage) we have to get some things going a bit more fluently to achieve some good results regarding progress.

    Unfortunately I cannot participate very much for the next weeks, I am currently preoccupied with learning and writing my exams, afterwards I will enjoy my holidays. Nevertheless, I want to enable progress even without my constant guidance, so I have come to think about a somewhat more detailed to-do-list until the next release.

    I discovered this method of delegating detailed small parts of development to people working according to a complete list of tasks in another modding-community and found it quite helpful - people can see how far we have come, furthermore, it is possible for them to participate with easy and small parts that do not require much time. I imagine somewhat of a 2-step-organisation, with one person responsible for a task field (say, "Land Doctrines" for Karelian) who then lists his subsequent tasks that can be delegated or done by himself.

    Example:

    Land Doctrines (Karelian)
    • -Superior Firepower Doctrine Stats (done)
    • -Grand Battleplan Doctrine Stats (Karelian)
    • [...]
    • -Doctrine Tech Layout (Thaegen)
    • -Testing

    So, for every field we have a person (or we have non, as long as nobody feels responsible) organising the tasks that need to be done, "supervising" (not so strictly of course) his co-workers that want to pick certain tasks in the field and updating the progress to me, who organizes the list.

    What do you think about this?
    We can also leave this aside and only use the list for reference, but I pretty much like the idea to split things down into really small tasks that can be done easily within 1 hour or so, as this is much more encouraging for people from outside to contribute, if they see what needs to be done and what fits their personal requirements.

    I will post a more detailed list in the next post below, which will then go into our paradox-forum-thread as well.

    Looking good here. During the next week I´ll see whether 1.4b has changed anything in the way units take stats from land doctrines.

    Could you nevertheless give a short summary of what sub-tasks for the doctrines are done and what can/must still be done for the list?

    Will do, yesterday I replied quickly since I were expecting guests for the evening.
    The situation of land doctrines is following:

    * -Spearhead Stats (done)
    * -Large Front Stats (done)
    * -Superiour Firepower Stats (done)
    * -Grand Battle Plan Stats (done)
    * -Light Infantry Stats (done)
    * -Guerrilla Warfare Stats (done)
    * -Doctrine Tech Layout (Thaegen?)
    * -Testing

    -Edit as the problem is solved-

    Strange...
    Maybe you should send Johan your files to make him fix that Very Happy

    By the way, General Grant is back aboard as Marketing-agent Smile He will coordinate our effort to get more peoples interest and enable the mod to progress faster, just as he sucessfully managed with both his mods for HoI 2.

    However, he has recommended us to start with the map-changes as soon as possible (which fits to my list where it is priority number 1) - I don´t know how you proceeded on this field, we should open another thread in the setup-part to flesh out the details before starting so. I will help you with smaller tasks (for example "border setup of Italy") to keep things rolling, but I don´t promise you too much: I have to learn for my exams and after finishing them, I will hindered from work for the majority of march.

    So, slow, but steady, thats the slogan Wink

    Good to know that our active ranks just grew by one-third Very Happy

    Tech-wise I´m all open for ideas - the next step is obviously to contact Johan or alternative some other modders who have seemingly solved this.
    Devildread used to have a similar long list of "new doctrine name = no"-stats in his custom units but they have vanished in the recent versions. If only I could solve this I and all potential volunteers could start the necessary testing of the first version of land doctrines...

    I agree on the notion that scenario setup indeed our top priourity. I am still waiting Krazy19Karl´s map to start, but once he gets it done (the latest info was that he aimed to release it by the end of February) our work for scenario setup will start immediately. See the Borders&Historyline for a new thread about this:
    https://fatherland.forumotion.net/borders-historyline-f2/borders-in-europe-t33.htm#333

    And yep, even though the speed may be glacial at the moment, the direction is still right Wink

    Very good news here. Any informations about compatibility? 1.3? 1.4 Beta?
    Next week I will be very absent again, so you´ll have to do a lot of stuff without me, but I think you can cope with that. For today and tomorrow, I will start with the Italian borders if you don´t mind.

    By the way, here is an interesting video about game design and the underlying challenges.

    So far none, works fine with 1.3 in my test installation. And no worries, I´ll try to summon the few volunteers who´ve registered here to help me while I´ll start to edit the map by myself in the meantime.

    EDIT BG: Moved Italy-stuff into the right topic for this (Borders in Europe)

    Another interesting excerpt from another article I am currently reading - about decolonization and influence of Cold War for the economic & social development in certain colonial countries:

    New times, new struggles for humankind: only about 60 years ago, a decolonisation process began in Asia and Africa (Davidson 2001). However, political independence is not automatically emancipation, freedom, and development. The colonisers left behind clustered countries, not societies as initially. They left behind a gap in human development. During oppression times, people where hindered in developing their societies, and were instead kept busy in the colonial apparatus, and/or where involved in emancipation struggles. While the Europeans and their descendents in the Americas and Oceania had developed significantly through the industrialisation process, the colonised groups’ societal and economic development deteriorated. Thus, the wide economic disparity that grew between nations, and indirectly between ethnic groups, became a significant fact.
    During this short time they have been politically independent countries, but vulnerable and weak ones, with unskilled, uneducated, frustrated, and alienated populations. As a result, the new nations were easy prey for ambitious elites, domestic or foreign. Cold War tactics forced the newly independent countries, like nearly all countries around the world, to choose a side. The regimes had to choose between the socialist empire of the Soviet Union and the capitalist empire of the USA. The incentives were financial and political support; the deterrent was international intervention. It is important to note that, although other countries suffered the same Cold War pressures, the newly liberated countries where more vulnerable to the political order. They had less political, economical and social power to influence the character of the tensions and their consequences to their societies. In general, the two empires did not care what kind of leaders they got support from, nor to whom they gave financial aid and loans.
